early morning gratitude

It's 3:30am and I'm glad I can sleep as long I need to today. The sun is supposed to rise at 4:21am today in this crazy Alaskan town. The sky is already light, waiting for the sun. Gray clouds are rolling by, against a background of lighter sky. The mountain tops still glow with the little bit of snow left from the winter.

I'm grateful for my eyes that can behold such a beautiful vision. I'm grateful for my body that can stay up until 3:33am and still be coherent. I'm grateful for the birds that are chirping outside my window.

And I'm grateful for my sleep mask, which will block the light when I finally do sleep.

Life is an amazing adventure. I'm glad I saw Auntie Mame when I was young, because I think some of her philosophy rubbed off on me. "Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!"

There's no room for regret at a banquet. Especially for staying up so late that it's early.
